These lamination test were produced for a project during my masters degree entitled Materials & Process. The objective was to study a process and the materials used to come up with a design utilising its features.
Male & Female mold
The majority of the tests i produced used the most popular method of lamination known as Male and Female molding as a positive and negative mold are used to clamp the veneer into the desired form.
I wanted to try and create many different styles and forms on a small scale before I thought of what to do with the process.
The images below show the steps of the lamination process.
After my explorations I combined a few of the tests characteristics to design this shelving unit, each shelf starts at the foot of the unit, they then split to create separate shelves.
unfortunately this project never progressed further than this stage due to time constraints, but these test versions clearly demonstrait the concept in action.
